Frankie and Johnny at Castle Hill
Castle Hill Players (NSW) present Frankie and Johnny in the Clair De Lune by Terence McNally during June 2015.
There is only ‘this’ Frankie and ‘this’ Johnny in the world and their tentative discovery of what they wish for and fear creates a beautifully poignant story of two people trying to connect. As the evening slowly ebbs towards the dawn so does their relationship carefully unfold in this tender and romantic comedy.
Under a full moon in an Apartment in Hell’s Kitchen New York City, a man and woman, no longer in the bloom of their youth, discover each other after their “one night stand”. But for Frankie and Johnny their beginning is one wrought with personal demons and insecurity. Theirs is not a story of blinding infatuated love and shooting stars. This is a story about facing a hurtful past and finding the strength to allow happiness back into one’s heart.
Johnny is a true romantic who is determined to win Frankie over despite her own sense of bitterness and distrust towards possible happiness. She wants him to leave so she can get back to her lonely life of eating ice cream in front of the TV but Johnny has other plans. He is convinced he is in love and that they are soul mates.
Directed by Peter Rhodes, Frankie and Johnny in the Clair De Lune is a moving portrait of what it means to be alone yet afraid of what the future may hold. This richly passionate play gracefully journeys through moments of humour and sadness to reveal two ordinary people longing for companionship and acceptance in an extraordinary way.
Tickets can be booked online at www.paviliontheatre.org.au. Frankie and Johnny in the Clair De Lune opens on Friday 5 June 2015 and runs until Saturday 27 June 2015. Tickets price: $21/$26.
