Evita For Sydney’s North
Epic musical EVITA plays at Manly’s Star of the Sea Theatre in November 2015
Manly Musical Society follows up its hit recent productions of Chess and Company with the famous epic about the iconic South American leader, Eva Peron.
Winner of several major awards, including the Tony for Best Musical, the musical follows the rise of Evita (as her adoring public called her) from the slums of Argentina to First Lady of Argentina. Peron was worshiped by the people as an advocate for the poor and became one of the most powerful women in the world.
Featuring the music and lyrics of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice (Joseph, JC Superstar), the score of Evita features “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina”.
Manly’s Evita opens at the Star of the Sea on Friday 20 November and runs Thursday to Sunday until 28 November.
Directed by Carl Olsen, produced by Keith Muir with musical direction by Anthony Cutrupi and Alison Logie’s choreography, the production features Keira Connelly in the title role, with Luke Holland as Che, Neville Bereyne as Juan Peron, William Sunderland as Magaldi and Heather Campbell as Peron's Mistress. Including Kiana Carty & Maeve Cox as Child Soloists.
With the ensemble comprising Tavis Cunningham, Sam Ducker, Harrison Vaughan, Danielle Siller, Alison Gracia, Madeleine Norris, Susana Tagoai, Georgia Ellis, Jessica Manning, Rosie Barrett and Ben Greenwood.
Director Carl Olsen says: “Evita is not so much the story of a particular woman’s life, but a reflection on the themes of power, adulation, corruption, and the desires woven through all three, which Eva’s brief life demonstrated. It’s an inspirational story that will touch everyone.”
