Engadine's Joseph: The Family Factor

Engadine's Joseph: The Family Factor

Engadine Musical Society (NSW) plans a Technicolor makeover for the Sutherland Entertainment Centre from May 9 to 13, 2012 with their latest production, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Opening one day short of ten years since EMS last presented Joseph (opened 10th May 2002) the production team of Kerrie Hartin, Valerie Hull and Kirstie Bell promise audiences a technicolor feast.

This production provides a contrast to previous versions, with the role of the Narrator shared between two – Tanya Boyle and Rebecca Gordon. Two very different characters, together they narrate the story producing harmonies for the already famous songs.

The cast includes over 70 people, with a double cast of children. Most of the kids have never been involved in a production befofore, but we’re told by older hands at Engadine that to sit at rehearsals (whilst frustrating at times) and witness them group and develop into the cast they have become has been such a privilege. Some of these will be the stars of tomorrow. If this was said of EMS’s production ten years ago then the 2012 production of “Joseph” is filled with the stars of today - Narrators, Tanya Boyle and Bec Gordon were only starting on the stage in the 2002 production, as was Pharaoh, Paul Oscuro.

The title role is played by Andrew Fabris, who first saw “Joseph” when his elder sister was featured in the children’s chorus of EMS’s 2002 production. Ten years on, Andrew is Joseph, with his father (who also built the set) and youngest sister in the show.

This family factor is strong at Engadine Musical Society. Director Kerrie Hartin has her daughter and granddaughter in the production. Narrator Rebecca Gordon is performing alongside her father (Jacob) and her sister (children’s chorus) and the children’s chorus is filled with siblings. Those helping behind the scenes (costumes, set building, backstage) are partners, parents and siblings to those on the stage. Such a connection is what helps keep a community group successful, and encourages people to return.

This production is on for one week only at the Sutherland Entertainment Centre.
