The Koorliny Arts Centre was the big winner of the 45th annual Robert Finley Awards held at Perth’s State Theatre Centre on January 18, taking out six categories including Best Musical for The Boy From Oz (pictured left).
The awards are run by the Independent Theatre Association, with judges travelling around Western Australia to adjudicate on community independent and school theatre.
Two of the adjudicators Kent Acott and Lyn Hutcheon were honoured with life membership.
STIRLING Theatre (WA) is starting its 50th year in 2020 with a farewell performance, as seen in the play The Actress, with a famous stage performer deciding to retire.
Written by Peter Quilter and directed by Carryn McLean, the touching comedy is set in a dressing room with the family of Lydia Martin – including her ex-husband, theatre colleagues and fiancé – wanting to wish her well.

THE 2019 City of Newcastle Drama Awards (CONDAs) showed that performers and backstage workers in and around Newcastle are increasingly revealing their talents at a comparatively early age.
Two shows that each won four CONDAs – Playing Face (Bearfoot Productions) and Mamma Mia! (The Very Popular Theatre Company) – had many people in their teens and early 20s in their teams.
Draculas Cabaret restaurant was the new venue to host the Gold Palm Theatre Awards formerly Gold Coast Area Theatre Awards) on Monday 2 December 2019.
It was the 11th presentation night of the award which covers not only the Gold Coast community theatre but also those in Ipswich, Toowoomba and Morton Bay. Hosted for the sixth time by musical theatre star Ian Stenlake it was night of celebration with musical acts drawn form the nominees.
