Cuckoo’s Nest for Bunbury

Cuckoo’s Nest for Bunbury

Bunbury Repertory Club (WA) will present One flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest from March 23 to 31.

The play by Dale Wasserman, based on the novel by Ken Kesey, was made famous by the 1975 movie version directed by Milos Forman.

McMurphy believes that by acting a little crazy he won’t be sent to the prison work farm and would escape having to actually work. His plan backfires when he is sent to a mental asylum. Making the best of the situation he proceeds to turn the place upside down with gambling and generally upsetting the order of the place.

Director Shelley Stubbs told Stage Whispers, “When I first chose this play to direct, I chose it for its challenges both to me as a director and to the actors. It was a play we could all get our teeth into.  What I did not expect was the dedication, drive and passion of the actors involved. Every one of them has put 110% into every aspect of their characters and it is showing in the quality of the production. I get goosebumps at every rehearsal.  Glen Perks (McMurphy), Paul Williams (Harding) and Ros Manning (Ratchett) have a chemistry between them that is electric on stage and Yarno Pyne has taken the character of Billy Bibbit to a whole new level. It has been an absolute privilege to direct this talented group of cast and crew.”

The production will be performing at the New Lyric Theatre on Bourke Street, Bunbury, from March 23 to 31, 2012. Bookings: Central News on Victoria Street or at the door.
