Bundaberg Players Mark Major Milestones
Since its formation in 1951, the Bundaberg Players Incorporated (formerly Bundaberg Amateur Players), has provided an annual program of entertainment, and this year they will reach a remarkable performance milestone.
Plans are progressing well for ‘Revue 500’, which will celebrate the staging of 500 productions by the Bundaberg Players Incorporated this September.
This revue will be a concert-style production featuring songs, dance, and reflective moments from the organisation’s last 499 shows.
Artistic Director Rebecca Hutchins says, “We have some wonderful former members joining us both on stage and off, and we encourage past members to make contact as there are so many ways to be involved.”
‘Revue 500’ will include choral performances as well as ensemble dance numbers from some of the organisation’s much-loved shows, including Gilbert and Sullivan, Mamma Mia!, Grease, and Les Misérables.
There will be 6 performances from 27 September to 5 October, with a celebratory dinner to be held following the final matinee.
In 2026 The Bundaberg Players also celebrate their 75th anniversary.
BPI President, Nigel Dick says the organisation will mark this diamond milestone with a brand-new auditorium 50 years after it was constructed.
“The Helen and Skipper Cattermull Auditorium was constructed in 1976, and while we have made some small changes over the years, the next modification will be quite major and result in closing down this part of our theatre for a period of time in 2025,” notes Nigel.
This major refurbishment will include replacement of the ceiling and pro arch, new entrances and carpet, upgrades to lighting and electrical, and new auditorium seating.
A fundraising sub-committee has been formed to help raise the money needed for the auditorium project, which will include the sale of 242 seats to interested businesses or individuals.
