Michael Gow’s Away Celebrates 30 Years
Liverpool Performing Arts Ensemble Inc has been dedicated to showcasing plays associated with school programs for many years. Now the company presents Away by Michael Gowat the Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre from 10- 14 May, 2016.
Three Australian families set out separately on a summer holiday but are driven together by a storm. At times funny and yet painfully truthful, Away exposes both comedy and tragedy in these families lives.
President of Liverpool Performing Arts Ensemble Melissa Spiteri said, “It’s a great Australian play and I can see why it continues to be a significant piece of drama for HSC English and Drama students. There are themes of suffering and that loss is a part of life. It touches on acceptance and learning to reconcile issues from the past.”
Director Tony Woollams’ production of Away will feature stylized representations of the setting for each scene on a large screen. The play will be performed in the main theatre at the Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre from 10 – 14 May. All matinee performances will include a post-show question and answer session with the creative team and cast.
Away remains Michael Gow’s most popular piece of contemporary Australian drama that every Australian can relate to.
This year marks 30 years since Away first premiered at the Griffin Theatre Company in 1986.
Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre offers free onsite parking and is located only 100 metres away from Casula Train Station.
