2018 CAT Awards

The Canberra Repertory Theatre and So Popera Productions from Wollongong were the big winners at the 2018 Canberra Area Theatre Awards.

Each won six CAT awards at the presentation night, held at the Australian National University’s Llewellyn Hall on February 23, 2019.

Judges travelled to 56 community theatres and schools to assess 86 productions from as far south as Eden to as far west as Dubbo.

A Bunch of Amateurs

The first production for Arts Theatre Cronulla for 2019 is A Bunch of Amateurs, a comedy by Ian Hislop and Nick Newman packed with comic dialogue and plenty of twists and turns.

Facing the loss of their community theatre, a local amateur dramatic group in the sleepy Suffolk village of Stratford St John decides that their only hope of ensuring vital sponsorship and attracting a large audience is to cast a celebrity in their final production, King Lear.

Enright On The Night at The Genesian

Sydney’s Genesian Theatre has announced an all-female cast for its forthcoming tribute to the late playwright and lyricist, Nick Enright – Enright On The Night.

Enright On The Night is devised by David Mitchell and Melvyn Morrow. The pair were actually introduced to each other by Enright and have devised the show especially for the Genesian Theatre, where Enright made his debut at the tender age of 21.

Australia’s oldest musical society is taking a journey down the Yellow Brick Road in September 2019.

Rockdale Musical Society is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year and kicking of a special season of festivities and shows with The Wizard Of Oz.

Bloody Murder at the Pavilion

Post-war Family Conflict Sparks Comedy at Old Mill

A PLAY from a multi-award-winning actor, director, writer and stand-up comedian is on offer at the Old Mill Theatre (WA) in February 2019.

Written by Sue Ingleton and directed by Trevor Dhu, After You’ve Gone is a comedy set in 1946 in a large country town.

The town square is dedicated to dead hero Harold, followed by an evening supper and a gathering of World War II survivors.

£30 Million and Changing With Grace at Stirling

TWO strong ladies feature in two strong plays for the first season of 2019 at Stirling Theatre (WA).

Presented under the banner of “Grace and Willpower”, The Greening of Grace is about a woman who changes her politics after traumatic life events while Lady Willpower is a gentle comedy of bad manners, deceit and a battle of siblings over a £30 million estate.
