AIM Opens Melbourne Campus

Eyes set on being the next pop star? The next tour producer? The next artist manager? Look no further than the Australian Institute of Music’s brand new campus in Melbourne.

The state-of the-art facilities will be opening up the doors to the public for the very first time on January 18th for the inaugural Melbourne Open Day.

The day is designed to give a taste of the day-to-day opportunities the Australian Institute of Music (AIM) provides its students as well as give the new Melbourne departments the opportunity to meet future students.

Leading a special performance on the day is guitarist Sam Westphalen, a recent graduate of AIM in Sydney who, thanks to AIM, is taking his first steps on the international stage next year with a 15 date tour around China.

On his recent successes and experience at AIM, Westphalen says, "My time at AIM taught me everything I know about production and also working out where I fit into things musically; my niche.”

“I was invited to perform at one of the AIM Melbourne events earlier this year and some of the people at AIM got in touch with Maton Guitars, who make the guitars I've been playing on my whole life. After seeing me perform they asked me if I wanted to go to China. You never know what will happen!" he adds.

The open day serves as an opportunity for the public to find out more about the unique and specialised music courses and degrees on offer, which are broken intro three departments: Composition & Music Production (Diploma and Bachelor), Entertainment Management (Bachelor) and Contemporary Performance (Diploma and Bachelor).

The day is crammed with a series of free workshops and masterclasses. Why not learn about A Day in the Life of a Music Producer? Or learn the process of becoming a Tour Manager? Take on career and study options talks, get advice, see AIM alumni perform... and that's just the tip of the iceberg.

Already confirmed to be a part of the anticipated open day is Darren Percival (The Voice Australia). Darren will be on hand to lead a vocal workshop. Josh Kyle, another Voice finalist and AIM alumni, will also be at the event and is taking on a role at the Melbourne AIM as the coordinator for Contemporary Performance.

The public will be invited to become AIM students for the day and sit in on the interesting and relevant panel discussions about the music industry. At the Sydney open days, the panels have experienced full houses, with illustrious guests imparting their wisdom for captivated audiences. Organisers of the Melbourne event are anticipating the same response in the nation’s music capital!

Highly regarded and successful representatives from each of AIM's departments will be in attendance on the day to give tips and advice, have a chat and give attendees the knowhow on "getting your foot in the door" through a series of informative and interactive panels, workshops and masterclasses.

And let’s not forget the most important part of the open day: showing off the stunning, brand new, purpose-built campus, nestled in the beating heart of the CBD at 120 King St, Melbourne.

Events & Recruitment Coordinator for AIM, Jody Millerchip says, "If you're interested in a career in music, this Open Day is not to be missed, we're looking forward to a fun and informative day that has proven to be a huge success in Sydney."

The highly anticipated launch of AIM's Melbourne campus will provide exciting new opportunities for students wanting to get into the music and entertainment industry. The Open Day will give the public a taste of the extraordinary education opportunities AIM are offering in 2014 and beyond.
