Broadway Star Liz Callaway Sings in Sydney This Week.

Tony Award® Nominee and Emmy Award-winning actress, singer and recording artist Liz Callaway will perform in Sydney for one night only on Wednesday 16 January at The Basement.

Liz Callaway made her Broadway debut in Stephen Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along; she received a Tony Award nomination for her performance in Baby, and for five years won acclaim as Grizabella in Cats. She has also starred in the original casts of Miss Saigon, The Three Musketeers and The Look of Love.

Margi De Ferranti says, "Liz Callaway is the original Broadway leading lady. She is the reason I wanted to enter musical theatre. She has the cleanest 'mix' (passagio)."

Producer David Hawkins says, “Liz Callaway is one of the best voices on Broadway, her incredible clarity and bang on pitch is simply sublime. The musicianship between Alex Rybeck (musical director) and Ms Callaway is a rare treat, they have worked together on albums and shows for decades, it is one of the great musical relationships of the current New York cabaret landscape.”

Liz sang the Academy Award nominated song “Journey to the Past” in the animated feature Anastasia and is also the singing voice of Princess Jasmine in Disney’s Aladdin and the King of Thieves and The Return of Jafar. Other film work includes the singing voice of the title character in The Swan Princess, Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride, Beauty and the Beast, and The

Brave Little Toaster Goes to Mars.

Liz has released four solo recordings: Passage of Time (PS Classics) as well as The Beat Goes On, The Story Goes On: Liz Callaway On and Off-Broadway, and Anywhere I Wander on the Fynsworth Alley label. Her numerous other recordings include Sibling Revelry (DRG), Boom! Live at Birdland (PS Classics), Unsung Sondheim, Lost in Boston, The Maury Yeston

Songbook, Dreaming Wide Awake: The Music of Scott Alan, Hair in Concert, and the complete recording of Allegro produced by the Rodgers and Hammerstein Organization.

Liz also sings the theme song to The Nanny, written by her sister Ann Hampton Callway.
