BLOOD BROTHERS: Did you hear the tale of the Johnstone twins?
Melbourne audiences now have the chance to see a brand new production of Willy Russell’s musical Blood Brothers.
Set in impoverished 1960s Liverpool, Blood Brothers tells the tragic tale of Mrs Johnstone and her twins separated at birth and disastrously reunited.
According to the show’s Director Chris Parker, "what excites me most about Blood Brothers is the real characters Willy Russell has captured. The fact that the audience watches the lives of the characters play out creates an incredibly moving tale."
Blood Brothers played more than10,000 performances to become the third longest-running musical production in West End history due to the show’s emotional impact on audiences.
Written by celebrated playwright Willy Russell, whose body-of-work includes the plays Educating Rita and Shirley Valentine, for which Russell received both BAFTA and Oscar nominations for penning the screenplays of their film adaptations.
The central role of the twins' mother has been played by many famous actors including Barbara Dickson, Stephanie Lawrence, no fewer than four of the Nolan sisters and Petula Clark.
In this production, the role goes to Chelsea Plumley joined by a stellar ensemble cast including Gareth Keegan and Matthew Bradford who undertake an unbelievable physical and emotional journey as twins Mickey and Eddie.
Manilla Street Productions last presented the play Bad Blood Blues and is currently producing the Sondheim musical Pacific Overtures and the premiere of Where Do I Begin? The Voice of Shirley Bassey, written by Matthew Robinson.
This strictly limited season of Blood Brothers premieres 20th March 2014 at The Chapel, Chapel Off Chapel.
