Alexa Turn on the Lights, in Perth

Perth, you are invited to come and meet Alexa as you’ve never seen her before!

One of the most recognised voices in the world will together with show creator Jacob Watton have a conversation about how our world has been deeply changed by technology.  What better way to explore this change than through a conversation with technology herself.

Jacob Watton and Cluster Arts present Alexa Turn on the Lights as part of Perth’s Fringe World Festival, from February 2 – 12, 2023.

Part TED talk, part couples therapy, Alexa,Turn on the Lights is a begrudging duet between Jacob Watton, and an Amazon Alexa smart home device.

Alexa, Turn on the Lights uses bespoke artificial intelligence programming to make a truly interactive performance. No show will be the same. From its premiere at Toowoomba’s Curious Arts Festival, critics called the show “bite-sized, intimate theatre at its best”. Read our review here.

Jacob (a self-confessed Luddite) and his brother Ben came together to create a show where audiences get to meet, talk, listen and laugh with a piece of technology, who often has a slightly ‘superior air’.

Jacob says, ‘Technology is the way we connect, but how can we have 500 friends and still have no one to talk to?

Jacob Watton is a Brisbane based choreographer and dancer. A passionate independent artist and researcher into contemporary dance and theatre practices.
