Shakespeare Carnival Winners

Shakespeare Carnival Winners

Sport For Jove Theatre Company’s first ever Shakespeare Carnival reached its conclusion with State Finals on Saturday 18 June at the Seymour Centre in Sydney.

Students from twelve schools competed in the exciting climax to the four-month bard fest.

Beginning in March, entrants from all over NSW participated in Shakespeare Carnivals within their own schools, with the winners moving on to represent their school at the regional level against other schools.

The winners of those regional competitions were the finalists participating on Saturday night at the Seymour Centre's York Theatre.

The finalists were St Mary's Star of the Sea College (Wollongong), Sydney Girls’ High, Tara Anglican School (North Parramatta), OLMC Parramatta, Wollongong High School of Performing Arts, Abbotsleigh College (Wahroonga), Korowal School (Blue Mountains), International Grammar School (Ultimo), PLC Sydney (Croydon), The Armidale School, Willoughby Girls’ High and Newtown High School of Performing Arts.

Each competed in actively creating their own theatrical worlds by either designing sets and costumes, composing music, choreographing dances and acting scenes that are inspired by and celebrate the work of William Shakespeare.

The winners were:

Best Performance: Willoughby Girls’ High

Best Duologue performance: Abbotsleigh (Wahroonga)

Best Group Performance: PLC Sydney (Croydon)

Best Music Performance: OLMC Parramatta

Best Dance Performance: Sydney Girls’ High

Best Design: OLMC Parramatta
