Ross Wilson & The Peaceniks
Ross Wilson has been a part of the music industry for over 50 years, starting in a blues band called The Pink Finks when he was in school, then going on to have commercial success with bands such as Daddy Cool and Mondo Rock.
The 2017 Adelaide Fringe audience were lucky enough to experience a selection of his back catalogue for 60 minutes and although the venue resembled a sauna in Adelaide’s century heat, it did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm of the crowd.
Starting with an early hit from 1971 ‘Come Back Again’, the audience responded loudly. Hits such as ‘Cool World’, ‘State of the Heart’, ‘Come Said the Boy’ and the iconic ‘Eagle Rock’ kept the gathering happy.
Wilson is a consummate professional and oozes charisma and stage presence. Although the heat was clearly uncomfortable, not once did he mention it, chatting to the audience with ease. It was evident he still has a passion for his chosen career. Teasing us with some new material, he showcased his song-writing skills and kept us wanting more.
It is hard to believe this Aussie Icon will celebrate his 70th birthday this year. If last night’s show was anything to go by he has no plans to slow down and the music industry is the better for it.
