Impromptunes - Tune Your Own Adventure
Impromptunes - Completely Improvised Musical is one of the most popular regular visitors to Fringe World. As a long term fan of that show, i decided to check out their show for kids - Impromptunes - Tune Your Own Adventure.
Unlike its older sibling, Tune Your Own Adventure’s last show was not a sell-out, but the response to this production from its young audience would indicate that it should be - with complete involvement from everyone in the audience with this high energy improvised show.
Performers, host Brenna Glazebrook, and performers Josh Burton, Morgan Phillips, Amberly Cull and Emmet Nicholls, joyously sing a family audience through some improvised songs and games based on audience suggestions - including on this day a lovely tribute to audience member Paola (7). The culmination is a fifteen minute musical, again based on audience suggestion - this time about a ‘Naughty’ and thieving sock - as suggested in the title, the audience choose the direction of this story at various points. The improvising is top notch and completely suitable for young audiences, and although there were some jokes more appreciated by the adults in the audience (a great touch) these performers are very aware of what kids find funny.
Accompanied by very clever musician Hayden Dun, who also improvises every note, the singing is also excellent, with some lovely harmonies. The show also introduces its young fans to a variety of styles.
If you have the opportunity to catch this delightful family show at any point in the future (I believe it will be at Adelaide Fringe), then grab a ticket, I am still singing Paola has the Power!
