Françoise and Friends
Sylvia Cornes takes an Ellington Jazz Club audience back to Paris in the 1960s with Françoise and Friends, a tribute to Françoise Hardy and her contemporaries. Playing to capacity audience, Sylvia and her band create the feel (and look) of the era in a warm, nicely polished show.
Sylvia’s beautiful, smoky and resonant voice captures the feel of Françoise Hardy, perhaps most famous of the French “yé-yé” girls. Well supported by Thomas Freeman (guitar), Bronton Ainsworth (drums) and Wayan Biliondana (bass), Sylvia also recreates hits made famous by Serge Gaisbourg, France Gall and Brigitte Bardot. There is a fun guest appearance by Hugo Bartsch.
This show beautifully captures a musical style that we rarely have the opportunity to hear live, and this is a perfect vehicle for lead performer Sylvia Cornes, whose voice suits this style so well, and whose love and passion for François is evident. The show deserves its enthusiastic reception.
A must see for Francophiles, and a great choice for anyone who enjoys good music and would like to experience something a little different.
