The Baden Street Singers - Whose Note Is It Anyway?
The Baden Street Singers are a champion chorus with national awards to their credit. In this Whose Note Is It Anyway? they showcase not only their amazing vocal talent, but delight their audience with theatresports style musical improvisation, in a fun and interactive show.
In their opening Fringe World performance, two dozen talented choristers demonstrated some beautiful choral work, before enigmatic host Ash Schofield asked for a volunteer from the audience. Seven year old Niamh (the youngest audience member) volunteered and was given the task of controlling the choir’s tempo, using five lights. A wonderful demonstration of teamwork and a great deal of fun. In a later “game” audience members were tasked with turning off and on different sections of the choir using the same set of lights.
Audience members could request songs (any song) which were drawn from a hat and immediately performed by the choir, in gorgeous improvised barbershop style harmonies.
Another game involved a choir member chosen by chocolate wheel, asked to lead the choir in a song. The catch was that the song had to be created on the spot and include 10 words supplied by the audience. Opening day audiences enjoyed Alannah’s jazz rendition of “Noice Muffin”, Louise’s rock vibed “Football Fungus” and Ryan’s ballad titled “Potato Kerfuffle”.
Good family fun and a great choice of entertainment for all ages - with the matinee time a bonus for those who find evening fringe shows a challenge. Will be enjoyed by lovers of choirs, good varied musical choices and fans of improvisation.
