Les Misérables for Perth and Sydney in 2015
The new production of Les Misérables only had its premiere at Her Majesty’s Theatre, Melbourne last night (July 3, 2014), but already producer Cameron Mackintosh has announced that the musical will be storming the barricades in both Sydney and Perth, following a six month season in Melbourrne.
A Perth season, at the Crown Theatre from January 13, 2015 will precede the Sydney season at the Capitol Theatre from March next year.
The acclaimed new production of Boublil & Schönberg's legendary musical features new staging and reimagined scenery inspired by the paintings of Victor Hugo.
Producer Sir Cameron Mackintosh told The West Australian yesterday the latest version, stacked with performers from the WA Academy of Performing Arts, would appeal to a new generation of audiences.
Simon Gleeson, playing Jean Valjean, is among the numerous WAAPA graduates in the cast.
“I am very excited to announce that this new Australian production of Les Misérables will open in Sydney in 2015,” Cameron Mackintosh said.
“Sydney holds a very special place in the history of Les Mis, opening to our very first Australian audiences in 1987 and we are delighted to be bringing this new production to Sydney next year.”
In addition to Simon Gleeson, the new Australian cast of Les Misérables includes Hayden Tee as Javert, Patrice Tipoki as Fantine, Trevor Ashley, Lara Mulcahy, Euan Doidge, Chris Durling, Kerrie Anne Greenland and Emily Langridge.
