Helen Reddy to Tour in 2014
Helen Reddy is back on stage after more than a decade off the road, playing Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth from 5 April, 2014.
Crowned “Queen of 70’s Pop” and the 28thbest adult contemporary artist of all time by Billboard Magazine (2011), Helen Reddy has more than a dozen Top 40 hits including the iconic anthem I Am Woman, which was added to the National Film and Sound Archive in Australia in 2009.
Prompted by singing a duet with her sister Toni Lamond at Toni’s birthday, Helen Reddy has returned to the stage to widespread critical and popular acclaim.
Helen Reddy was the first Australian to win a Grammy Award, host her own television show and have three Number 1 hits in the same year in the USA. Additionally she has had 6 Billboard top 10 singles and 15 Billboard top 40 hits.
Born into a well-known Australian show business family, Helen Reddy has had a life and a career richer and more varied than anything she could ever have imagined as a girl in Melbourne. She has dined on her birthday with HRH Prince Charles, danced in the White House with the President of the United States, and had a tulip named after her in Holland.
Helen Reddy’s career covers all facets of the entertainment industry including film, television and the theatre. Helen has starred in London’s West End and on Broadway in New York. Her portrayal of Mrs. Johnstone in Blood Brothers on Broadway was a great triumph which she repeated in London’s West End. Appearances in USA national tours of Shirley Valentine, Anything Goes, Call Me Madam and The Mystery of Edwin Drood were also met with critical acclaim.
As a solo concert artist, she has played at the most prestigious venues the world over including Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York, as well as the Royal Albert Hall and the London Palladium. Helen was also the first western female performer invited to sing in the People’s Republic of China. The lyrics she penned for her feminist anthem I Am Woman are now included in the Modern American History syllabus of high school textbooks as an example of the Women’s Equality Movement. She has been honoured with the 26th August being named Helen Reddy Day in Hollywood, with the US Postal Service creating a commemorative envelope in celebration.
Helen retired from live performance in 2002 and practiced as a clinical hypnotherapist and motivational speaker. Her return concerts include her hits including I Am Woman, Angie Baby and Delta Dawn, in addition to songs from her vast catalogue that have never before been performed live.
