Australian Premiere: Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson

Australian Premiere: Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson

Broadway musical Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson is described as being like Saturday Night Live via the History Channel, given the Green Day treatment.

If you thought politics in Australia was rough, you ain’t seen Jackson yet…

According to the media release, America’s 7thPresident, Andrew Jackson is a 'patriotic firecracker, a punk rock political superstar and much, much more' a force to be reckoned with' in Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, receiving its Australian Premiere production at the Factory Theatre, Marrickville, NSW from Wednesday, 14 August – Sunday, 1 September.

'In this 90 minute white-knuckled look at the corrupt colonial past of America, Jackson is going to wreck the banks, kneecap the courts, evict the natives, and rule the world. And the will of the people won’t stop him. But to be a hero, sometimes you’ve gotta be an asshole.'

“The idea of the rock musical has almost become passé since Rent in the 90’s. This show gives a real rejuvenation to the genre. It’s left of field, a bit wild at times, but truly heartfelt. And the parallels between politics then and now are really spooky. Not to mention how closely this chapter of US history, tracing displacement of their native population, eerily mirrors our own country’s dark past. It’s the perfect antidote to our upcoming Federal election. Maybe our pollies could learn a thing or two from our version of Andrew Jackson,” said Director Craig Stewart.
