Regals Celebrate the Imagination with Seussical

The Regals Musical Society (NSW) challenges audiences to step into their imagination and the wonderful world of Doctor Seuss during  November 2013, with Seussical The Musical.

Since the closure of the soon to re-open Rockdale Town Hall, The Regals have been fortunate to perform at Bexley RSL and this November, they will be offering the family and friends of the RSL an opportunity to take a trip down memory lane and step into the wonderful world of Seuss.

Paul Riley, President of The Regals, says that doing a show that kids can enjoy is important to the company. “We’re very passionate about creating opportunities for young people to be involved in live theatre, whether it be as audience members or performers.

“So, we’re really excited to do a show that the whole family can enjoy.”

Narrated by the Cat in the Hat, Seussical tells the story of Horton the elephant who discovers a speck of dust and the tiniest universe in the world. Bullied by the whole Jungle of Nool for believing in something he cannot see, Horton sets forth on an adventure where anything's possible. “It’s a magical story about friendship, community and loyalty being triumphant,” says Tanya Boyle (Mayzie Labird). “It’s a show that will delight the entire family.”

Essential to the show’s delight is the music and the choreography. Musical Director, Clare Moroney and Choreographer, Stephanie Westbrook, have worked hard to  capture the quirkiness and joy of the show.

“The music is an orchestral gem, brimmingwith memorable melodies, delightfully quirky moments and beautiful choral workspanning several genres and tying together a lengthy list of literature,” says director, Kenney Ogilvie.

Ogilvie, has worked hard to create a production which celebrates the imagination. “Seussical the musical, is at its heart, an imaginative amalgamation of the Dr Seuss anthology. With thisproduction, I thunked and I thunked just how to aesthetically represent the imaginative

mind. The answer was in simplicity; everyone knows what The Cat In The Hat looks like, so why would you need more than his signature hat to identify him?”

The show features Meg Day as the Cat in the Hat, Mal Tuck as Horton, Sally Redman as Gertrude McFuzz, Tanya Boyle as Mayzie LaBird and Johnny Acosta as Sour Kangeroo.

According to Ogilvie, his cast do an amazing job in bringing the show to life, “The lead players bringing the characters of Dr. Seuss to life are an eclectic bunch that truly do the material justice. We are very blessed to have such a dedicated and talented bunch of people on board the Seussical train.”

Seussical! The Musical will be performed at Bexley RSL from November 22 - December 1.
