Les Misérables Returns to Chatswood
Les Misérables returns to the Chatswood stage after an absence of 20 years when Willoughby Theatre Company revisits the grand musical theatre epic from April 10.
Based on the novel by Victor Hugo, the Broadway, London and international hit Les Misérables will now be seen at Chatswood’s magnificent new theatre, The Concourse.
Director Tom Sweeney told Stage Whispers, “Revisiting this show after 20 years has been an exciting challenge as both production values and audience expectations have changed which means that we all have to raise our game to meet these new expectations. The recent film version has been both a blessing and a burden as people may expect the visual expanse of Paris however the excitement of a live orchestra, vocal dexterity of the principals and the intimacy of the theatre overcomes this expectation.”
This powerful masterpiece, following the story of Jean Valjean in 19th Century France, is an affirmation of the human spirit, seen on stage by 65 million people worldwide, not to mention the recent film version.
Les Misérables plays at The Concourse Chatswood for 12 performances only, from Wednesday April 10 to Sunday April 21. Tickets available at: ticketek.com.au, willoughbytheatreco.com.au or 1300 795 012.
